Congratulations!
Our department is full of wonderful and engaging faculty, staff and trainees who are being recognized on campus, in our community and nationally for their outstanding work and character. We would like to start recognizing awards and achievements of everyone in the department in every issue of the newsletter.
Congratulations to Drs. Alexander McRae and Kayla Robinson for being elected chief residents for the 2023-2024 academic year. The chiefs will be responsible for the residents and fellows call schedules and act as a liaison between the trainees and the departmental staff and attendings. They are instrumental in making our department function, and we are so proud of both of them!
Congratulations to Drs. Suwarna Anand and Patrick Newman who were recipients of the Trailblazer Teaching Award. This award is presented by the UMMC School of Medicine Office of Medical Education and recognizes outstanding members of the medical faculty for demonstrating excellence in medical student education; for engaging, inspiring, and mentoring learners; for modeling educational leadership; and for serving as a catalyst for the enhancement of teaching and learning.
Dr. Hess Robertson was inducted into the Normal C. Nelson Order which was established in 2004 by the Office of Academic Affairs and honors Dr. Normal C. Nelson who served as UMMC Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs and Dean of the School of Medicine from 1973-94. The purpose of the Nelson Order is to honor our institution's best teachers, as selected by students, by their peers and recommended by the deans of their respective schools. He was recognized as an M4 All-Star Teacher at the Carl G. Evers Banquet as well. The Carl G. Evers, MD, Society was established as an honorary and service organization. It is composed of medical students from all four years, each elected by the members of his/her class. Congratulations to Dr. Robertson for his exemplary teaching of our trainees!
Jessica Diamond, CRNA, completed the 127th Boston Marathon this past Monday, April 17, with an official time of 3 hours and 35 min!
Also congratulaitons to CRNAs Paige Panter, Mary Johnson, Todd Adcock, Lindsey Chenhall, Cheryl Dunaway and Blake Ward who have recently completed the NBCRNA CPC (Continued Professional Certification) exam.
A big kudos to the Dr. Anesh Rugnath and colleagues for conducting the first Fellows hands-on cadaver program introduction to kyphoplasty and intrathecal drug delivery on April 15th at the UMMC cadaver lab.
